Primary Years Programme
Our KIS Astana elementary school students (Grades 1 through 5) will aim to continue within the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, providing ongoing inquiry-based learning. Our goal within the elementary school years is to produce students with a lifelong love of learning who have accomplished academic success within their individual learning styles.
In our elementary school, your child will continue to benefit from KIS’ commitment to a low teacher-to-student ratio, where the average class size ranges from eight (8) to fifteen (15). This commitment ensures that your child receives highly personalized instruction, where students are encouraged to pursue inquiries and develop within their individual learning styles. Teachers are highly qualified with elementary school teaching experience as well as being native English speakers (or meeting standards equivalent to a native English speaker), which is the language of instruction in our KIS elementary school classrooms.
Our elementary school students aim to be fully immersed in the IB PYP, completing six Units of Inquiry throughout the year, along with English language arts and reading, mathematics, Russian/Kazakh, physical education, music and the arts, and computer class. Your elementary school-aged child will experience all of this within a week at KIS, along with learning to model the IB Learner Profile and IB Attitudes throughout their day-to-day learning experiences.
Each KIS classroom is set up with a Smartboard and connected with state-of-the-art information technology to maximize the effectiveness of instruction. Each KIS class is designed to be a true Smart Classroom. Every student in the elementary school has computer access and will be trained on the use of computers to facilitate their education.
